Bread Pakoda / Pakora / Bread bajji



It's one of the quickest snack recipe. Simple, easy yet very delicious with no stuffing involved. It's made of gram flour (besan) and bread. You can use any bread of your choice. Easy to make when you have unexpected guest. This pakoda is crispy from outside and spongy from inside. You can also make this when you have leftover gram flour batter.

Ingredients:

Bread slices - 3 nos.( or as needed)
Besan / gram flour - 1/2 cup
Rice flour - 2 tablespoon
Red chilli powder - 1/ 2 teaspoon
Coriander powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Asafoetida a pinch
salt to taste
Water
Oil for frying
Half medium size onion (optional)
2-3 green chillies (optional)
Cilantro finely chopped (optional)

Method:

  • Cut bread slices according to your choice of shape. You can also cut the edges as well.
  • Finely chop onion, green chilli and clinatro / coriander leaves. It's totally optional.
  • In a mixing bowl add besan, rice flour, asafoetida, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  • Mix well. Now add water little at a time.
  • Let the batter be thick consistency, should be enough to easily coat the bread slices. Then add finely chopped onions, green chillies and cilantro. Mix well again.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan.
  • Dip each pieces of bread in the batter and coat well from all sides and fry in a hot oil.Cook both sides over medium flame.
  • Fry till it turns golden in colour.
  • Drain it in the kitchen paper towel.
  • Continue doing the same with the rest of the bread slices.

Finely chop onion, green chillies and cilantro. It's totally an optional, but it taste good and gives little crunchy flavor.

Take any bread of your choice and cut them to your choice of shape. You can cut the edges as well.


In a mixing bowl add gram flour (besan), rice flour, asafoetida, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.

Now add water little at a time. Let the batter be thick consistency so that bread slices are coated easily. There should be no lumps. Then add finely chopped onions, green chillies and clinatro.

                     Dip each pieces of bread in the batter and coat well from all sides.

Fry in a hot oil. Cook both sides over medium flame. Fry till it turns golden in colour. Drain it in a kitchen paper towel.


Serve it warm with ketchup or green chutney.

Notes:
  1. You can use any bread of your chioce.
  2. For checking oil, pour one drop of batter into the oil, batter should come up but should not change its colour right away or else it will be uncooked from inside.
